Step 1: Select What do you know?

This selection is the most important control because the same number produces different areas depending on what it represents. A value of 10 cm as a radius does not describe the same circle as 10 cm as a diameter.

The numerical result is the same for a radius of 5 in each row, but the physical size is not the same because the units differ. The unit label is therefore part of the answer, not optional decoration.

Unit checks that prevent wrong answers
Area is always expressed in square units. A radius of 7 cm produces an area in cm², not cm. A radius of 7 m produces an area in m². If the calculator displays a linear unit next to an area result, recheck the page output or the way the result was copied.
